THE ORIGINAL SITE OF THE JOHN MCINTOSH AND MARY MACKENZIE HOME: IRISH MOUNTAIN, WEST BRANCH-EAST RIVER
PICTOU COUNTY, NOVA SCOTIA
This rural area is situated between Churchville and McLellan's Brook, back of Forbes Lake. The name is descriptive. An Irishman named Patrick Finner is supposed to have been one of the first settlers. Another early settler was Donald Ross, who was born at Eddrachillis, in Sutherlandshire. He came to Nova Scotia in 1816, lived for one year on Irish Mountain, then moved to Iron Ore. Jane, a daughter, was born at Irish Mountain. Thomas Frame, originally of Scotland, a farmer had a post office address at Churchville in 1860.
